The Lounge inside Palms Casino Resort continues to offer guests affordable and intimate entertainment, including various performances from all genres of entertainment. Date: Thursday, Feb. 9 Artist: Frankie’s B-Day Bash Time: 10 p.m. Cost: FREE Description: Frankie Moreno celebrates his birthday in true Vegas fashion with a high-energy night of music with special guest performances. Date: Sunday, Feb. 12 Artist: Vegas Poetry Lounge featuring Barry Black & The Senzuals Time: 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. performances Cost: $20 General Admission; $30 VIP (priority entry and seating) Description: The Vegas Poetry Lounge is an unparalleled experience of poetry, live Neo-Soul, R & B music, comedy and spoken word. Noted for his powerful voice, he has performed throughout Las Vegas and now brings his vocal jazz and traditional pop style to The Lounge for two special performances. Guests can expect to hear standards including Stardust, My Way, I’ll Be Seeing You and more. Christopher began singing at an early age of 14 and one short year later declared that his love of singing would become his chosen career path. He opened the yellow pages and called many elderly homes and simply told them “I’m going to give you a free show” – thus starting his career. Christopher sings a large variety of music, but his primary focus is jazz – belting out not only the standards, but a mix of original songs as well. Date: Saturday, Feb. 18 Artist: Gifted and Common Kings Time: 11 p.m. Cost: FREE Description: Gifted Johnson, who goes by the pseudonym “Gifted,” is one of the music industry’s best kept secrets. Reminiscent of some of the greatest crooners of our time, his melodic, multi-octave voice is hypnotic. As a singer, songwriter and producer, Gifted has been behind-the-scenes making music history for some of the industry’s top artists including Ne-Yo, Brandon B. Howard, Bell Biv Devoe, J.R. Rotem, Castro and others to name a few. Born to a gospel singing mother, Gifted was exposed at an early age to all areas of the music industry, allowing him to master his craft. Common Kings is a group described as “a culminating collection of inspirations orchestrated into an artistic sound expressing conscious minds and intimate emotions.” The group’s crazy, fun-loving attitude compliments their serious talent and love for music, producing a phenomenal pop sound with rock, hip-hop and R&B influences. Date: Saturday, Feb. 25 Artist: Fans of Jimmy Century Time: 10 p.m. Cost: $15 for general admission; $30 for VIP seating Description: Now calling Las Vegas home, Fans of Jimmy Century (FOJC) bring their avant-garde /dance rock /indie disco sounds to the valley. The group originated in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2007 and after penning the song “Mr. Las Vegas,” felt a strong and sudden urge to grow permanent roots in the city. FOJC hit a fast start with the success of their first 2008 single, “Hot Sahara,” which climbed the dance and radio charts. Both “Hot Sahara” and its accompanying album, Twist of the Banshees, were on the initial ballot in the Electronic Dance category for the Grammy Awards in the same year. “Hot Sahara,” and additional tracks have been consistently selected for key placements in several popular television shows such as The L Word, Gossip Girl, Melrose Place, The Real Housewives of NYC, Running Russell Simmons, Community, Ugly Betty, The Hills, The Listener and Samantha Who? Popular 2011 major feature film releases including Columbia Pictures’ Bad Teacher starring Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake, and Warner Bros.’ Hall Pass starring Owen Wilson featured “Hot Sahara,” “Lola Like This” and “Your Crying Game” in the DVD bonus features of both films this past summer. Popular brands and advertisers such as Roxy Europe, Forever 21 and Zippo Lighters have also used FOJC songs in commercial campaigns. In 2010, FOJC collaborated for LucasArts, assisting composer Mark Griskey with the new Star Wars video game. Fans of Jimmy Century’s exciting and theatrical live performances have made them a favorite on the West Coast festival circuit, sharing the stage with artists such as Lady Gaga, Robyn, Cyndi Lauper, Shiny Toy Guns, The English Beat and Berlin. FOJC’s fans known as “Hotheads” have also been instrumental in social work, raising money for Haiti Earthquake relief, and gathering together through FOJC music purchases to assist future programs in need. TUESDAY: Artist: Rick Faugno Time: 9 p.m. Cost: $10 Description: In Faugno’s new self-titled one-man show, audiences will experience a combination of the upbeat New Classic Vegas styles of Blues, Jazz, Soul, Pop, Rock, and Latin genre. His journey of self-expression includes music by innovative performers such as James Brown, Sammy Davis, Jr., Michael Jackson, and Frank Sinatra, as well as original tracks Faugno wrote himself. Rick Faugno has been performing professionally since the age of 12 when he played Will Rogers, Jr. in “Will Rogers Follies” on Broadway. Faugno went on to study acting and theatre, and earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from New York University. Since, his career has included such memorable shows as “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” “Fosse,” “Wonderful Town,” and “Conversations with My Father” on Broadway, as well as national tours of “The Boy Friend,” directed by Julie Andrews and “Jersey Boys,” in the critically acclaimed role of Frankie Valli. In 2010, Faugno showcased a standards-influenced songbook in “Songs My Idols Sang (and Danced)” and is currently the star of his own new classic Vegas one-man show.
