The Academy Award® winning film West Side Story first hit movie theaters 50 years ago. In honor of the anniversary, a newly remastered version of the film is being re-released November 9, 2011 at approximately 400 theaters nationwide for one night only.
NCM Fathom and Turner Classic Movies will also include a special pre-taped conversation prior to the movie with Academy Award® winner George Chakiris who played Bernardo, Marni Nixon who served as Natalie Wood’s voice double, as well as Walter Mirisch whose company produced the film. TCM host Robert Osborne moderates the talk.

Many critics consider West Side Story the best musical every written. It was released in 1961 and earned 10 Academy Awards® including Best Picture. West Side Story is ranked at number 66 on IMDb’s Box Office Mojo All Time Box Office list, adjusted for inflation.
West Side Story has lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, music by Leonard Bernstein and a book by Arthur Laurents. The film stars Natalie Wood as Maria, Richard Beymer as Tony and Rita Moreno as Anita.
