Hey I’m from Vegas and a damn lucky guy. I should probably gamble more. I won tickets from PunksinVegas.com for the Misfits show at the House of Blues Las Vegas. Even though I’ve seen former lead man Danzig before this was gonna be a little different show for me. I’m definitely a metalhead and the punk/horror punk show was gonna be a refreshing change. My boss Frank Shirley wouldn’t let me off early so I missed N.E.Last Words and Guilty by Association play. I got there just as JuiceheaD was setting up. Chicago punk trio JuiceheaD got the crowd whipped up and was promoting their recent CD How to Sail a Sinking Ship. They were a rippin’ punk band, didn’t say much but did play their asses off. I really liked their energy.
As soon as the curtain went down you could feel an energy beginning to build up for the Misfits. Must be that Delta mud understage. People began filing in slowly until the House of Blues was full. When the curtain went back up the place went nuts, Jerry Only didn’t say a word, they just went straight into their set. They started off with the new CD The Devil’s Rain but played a nice mix of past and present songs. The punk moshpit was mostly a circle pit with less brutality that the metal shows I’m used to. It was funny to see one guy that you could tell spent hours spiking his hair come out of the pit looking like a wounded porcupine, All in all the show was great with former Black Flag guitarist Dez Cadena just effin shredding and Eric “Goat” Arce beating the hell out if the drums. The House of Blues Las Vegas was great as always and has never disappointed me in all the shows I’ve seen there. I think that there’s a little rebellious “punk” in all of us and mine peaked out Thursday night.
